Perak DOF extends 12 artificial reefs to conserve marine biodiversity
LUMUT – DYAM Raja Dihilir Perak, Raja Iskandar Dzulkarnain Sultan Idris Shah has agreed to launch the Artificial Bait Anchoring Program in the waters of the Sembilan Islands, Perak last Sunday.
Also accompanying his Majesty were the State Assemblyman (ADUN) for Pengkalan Baharu, Azman Noh; Senior Deputy Director, Fisheries Conservation and Protection Division, Department of Fisheries Malaysia (DOF), Sukri Deris and DOF Perak Director, Hj. Mohd Ghazali A. Manap.
Through a statement issued by the DOF, a total of 12 units of soft bottom baits to prevent trawling (TDL-AT) have been anchored in the waters of the Sembilan Islands.
DYAM Raja DiHilir Perak said that all the baits, worth RM370,660.00, are for conservation purposes and to curb fishing activities using unfriendly fishing gear in the coastal waters of Perak.

According to him, from 2019 to 2024, a total of RM 1.26 million was channeled to the Perak DOF for the development and monitoring of artificial reefs throughout the 11th Malaysia Plan (RMK-11) to the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK-12).
During that period, a total of 47 reef units were anchored at four different locations in Perak waters.
DYAM Raja DiHilir Perak said the development of artificial reefs is part of the government’s efforts through the DOF to conserve marine biodiversity and to ensure that fisheries resource management is always sustainable and secure.
“The results of anchoring these reefs can also benefit 18,217 fishermen in the state,” the statement added.
